How can I adopt a dog from TACAR?

To adopt a dog from TACAR, you must be 21 years or older. You will first need to fill out an adoption questionnaire. If your questionnaire is approved, we will talk to you over the phone about the dog you are interested in and schedule a time for you to come meet him/her. Once the adoption has been finalized, we will conduct an initial home visit where we bring the dog to you at your home. Between 1 and 6 months later, we will conduct one more home visit to make sure everything is still going well!

Do you have cats?

No, TACAR is a dog only facility.

What do I do if I find a lost dog?

If you find a dog, you will need to call your local Animal Control. It is required that Animal Control gives 7 days to find the dog's owners. If no owners are found during that period of time, then the dog is released for rescue or adoption.

Please, do not bring the dog to the rescue.

What does TACAR do with the money collected from adoption fees and donations?

Take -A- Chance Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization. This means that all of the money we receive goes directly back to the rescue, for things such as rent for the rescue, vet bills, dog food, cleaning supplies, medications, toys, blankets, kennels, etc. Every penny is very much appreciated.

What is the adoption fee?

Our adoption fee can range from $150-$400, with $200 being most typical. The adoption fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

NOTE: We can no longer accept checks. Payments can be made by cash, through paypal, money order, or cashier's check. Please make out to Take -A- Chance Animal Rescue.

What is your Save The Saturday Event?

Our Save the Saturday event is a new event that we will be holding on the last Saturday of every month. We will be joined by Georgia Canine Rescue & Rehabilitation from Cochran, Peach County Animal Rescue from Fort Valley, and Pawsome Southern Animal Rescue from Warner Robins. We will have lots of vendors, food, music, adoptions, nail trims, training, and more! The event is dog and kid friendly, so you are most welcome to bring your entire family including your dog!

Where do your dogs come from?

Most of our dogs have been rescued from Clayton County Animal Control and Monroe County Animal Control, normally on the same day they were scheduled to be euthanized. We have rescued a couple locally from Warner Robins Animal Control. A handful of our dogs have come to us through owner surrenders or have been transferred from other local rescues.

How can I volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering at TACAR, you can email us through the website by clicking here, or you can message us on our Facebook page. We can email you a volunteer form for you to print out and bring with you. Volunteer duties include cleaning, feeding, walking, and socializing with the dogs. Must be 18 years or older to be able to walk the dogs. Children 13 and under require parental supervision while volunteering. Please Note: Dog rescue is hard physical work. Please be prepared to work and not just play with dogs.

What kinds of donations can I make?

All donations are 100% appreciated. Monetary donations go towards rent for our rescue, vet bills, food, toys, and other things the rescue is in need of. We rely solely on donations to keep our rescue running. Item donations that we love include food, blankets, towels, collars, toys, and treats.

NOTE: We can no longer accept checks. Payments can be made by cash, through paypal, money orders, or cashier's checks.

I need to rehome my dog, can you take him/her?

Unfortunately, the answer is we more than likely cannot. We are almost always at capacity from rescuing dogs from being euthanized. However, should there be available space, it is a possibility we can take the dog. We would have you fill out an Owner Surrender form and there is a non-refundable fee. We require all vet records.

If we are unable to take your dog, we do offer to advertise your dog on our Facebook page with your information to help in the rehoming of your pet.

Again, please note, we are almost always at capacity, so therefore advertising is the only other way we will be able to help.

What does the adoption fee include?

Every dog from TACAR is spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, completely up to date on vaccinations (which includes Rabies 1 year, DHLPP, & Bordetella), and are on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives before being adopted. Other vet care (injuries, heartworm treatment, etc) that has been needed can reflect in that dog's adoption fee.
